IBM Supports Shen’s Research on IBM Commercial Compilers

Xipeng Shen, Associate Professor of Computer Science at NC State, was awarded $22,500 by IBM Canada Limited for his most recent project entitled “Cognitive Computing-Based Compilation”. The award runs from January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2017, and will use IBM Watson-like computer engines to improve the results of IBM commercial compilers. The commercial compilers used are XLC/C++ and XLFortran. Both compilers are used frequently at the University. The project, which supports his student, Yue Zhao, will also enable intelligent compilation service on cloud.

Abstract:  This project proposes to leverage IBM Watson-like cognitive computing engines for improving the efficacy of IBM commercial compilers (XLC/C++, XLFortran) and for enabling intelligent compilation-as-a-service on cloud.
