Ma and Mueller Receive Award to Study Parallel I/O Benchmarks

Drs. Xiaosong Ma and Frank Mueller, associate professors of computer science at NC State University, have been awarded $499,999 by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support their collaborative research titled “Automatic Extraction of Parallel I/O benchmarks from HEC Applications.”

The award will run from September 15, 2009 to August 31, 2012.

Abstract:  Parallel I/O benchmarks are crucial for application developers, I/O software/hardware designers, and center administrators. However, currently they lack portable and comprehensive I/O benchmarks for high-end storage systems. We address this gap by proposing automatic generation of parallel I/O benchmarks. More specifically, we target the automated creation of application I/O benchmarks.
