Williams Receives 2010 IBM Smarter Planet Innovation Faculty Award
Dr. Laurie Williams, associate professor of computer science at NC State University, has received a 2010 IBM Smarter Planet Innovation Faculty Award to support her research proposal titled “On Educational Materials for Secure and Privacy-Preserving Development of Healthcare IT Electronic Health Records Applications.” The award is valued at $10,000.
Abstract: Electronic health record (EHR) applications present software developers challenges for implementing secure and privacy-preserving applications. EHR applications are an attractive target for attackers due to the sensitivity and value of patient data. We propose to develop teaching materials, which can be used to educate students and software developers about important considerations and techniques for the development of these applications.
