Our Three Winners Fund Announced

CandlesAn outpouring of support has flowed into Raleigh from all over the world since the promising lives of three exceptional members of the Wolfpack family were cut short in mid-February. NC State has established the Our Three Winners Fund to provide scholarships in memory of Deah Barakat, Yusor Abu-Salha and Razan Abu-Salha. Contributions can be made online. Menzies Releases Book on Data Science in Software Engineering

Congratulations to Dr. Tim Menzies, professor of computer science at NC State, for publishing a book entitled “Sharing Data and Models in Software Engineering.” Co-authors of the book include Ekrem Kocaguneli, Leandro Minku, Fayola Peters, and Burak Turhan. more

Tanwir Receives SAS Graduate Industrial Traineeship

Savera TanwirCongratulations to Savera Tanwir, a PhD student in the NC State Computer Science department, on receiving a Graduate Industrial Traineeship (GIT) valued at $17,627 from SAS. The award runs from January 1, 2015 through May 15, 2015. Through the GIT, Tanwir will provide research and analysis to SAS Institute including research, generation, testing and documentation of operations research software. more

SAS Provides Graduate Industrial Traineeship to Harenberg

Congratulations to PhD student Steven Harenberg, in the NC State Computer Science department, on receiving a Graduate Industrial Traineeship (GIT) valued at $33,917 from SAS. NC State Researchers Land UNC System Research Grants

The University of North Carolina General Administration has awarded six three-year grants totaling nearly $9 million to support game-changing faculty research in areas of strategic importance to the state – and North Carolina State University is a partner in five of the six research initiatives. Each of the funded projects involves faculty partners from two or more UNC campuses. Included in the grants and directly related to the department of computer science - $2.17M in support of the North Carolina Data Science and Analytics Initiative. more

NC State Adds Billions to State and Local Economies

A new economic impact study commissioned for the 16 colleges and universities in the University of North Carolina system shows that NC State University packs a tremendous economic punch for Wake County, the Triangle region and the state. During the 2012-13 fiscal year, NC State and its various enterprises created $6.5 billion in added income to the North Carolina economy, including $4.8 billion in income for the 13-county regional economy and $3.3 billion in Wake County income. The report shows that for every dollar that society spent on education at NC State throughout the 2012-13 fiscal year, it gains $9 in added state income and societal savings, for as long as the 2012-13 NC State students remain active in the North Carolina workforce. For every dollar spent by taxpayers, they gain $3.80 in added taxes and public sector savings. more

Epic Games has donated $5,000 in unrestricted support of Dr. Ben Watson’s user experience course.

InspectionXpert has donated $1,875 in support of the department’s Senior Design Center.

The NC RTP Chapter of SIM has donated $9,153 in support of cash awards and endowment growth associated with the NC Society for Information Management (SIM) Scholarship endowment.

Dr. Ranga Raju Vatsavai has been awarded $49,021 by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to support his research proposal entitled “Architecture Driven Optimization Approaches for Pattern Discovery from Big Data.” The award will support the work of Vatsavai’s graduate student, Seokyong Hong. more

Dr. Xiaohui (Helen) Gu has been awarded $49,567 by Credit Suisse Securities, LLC to support her research proposal entitled “Cloud Configuration Management System for Elastic Application Deployment in Private Clouds.” more

Dr. Tim Menzies has been recognized by the ACM’s Editorial Board of TOSEM (Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology) as a Distinguished Referee for 2013-2014, This distinction recognizes both the quantity and quality of his reviews provided for TOSEM, and marks distinguished contribution to the software engineering research community. more

Congratulations to CSC alum, Thushan Amarasiriwardena, co-founder of Launchpad Toys on their acquisition by Google! Thushan was featured recently in a Future Student profile. Read more about his creations here.

Personalized Job Search Agent in ePack

If you are a CSC student or recent graduate (within 12 months post-graduation) and would like to receive email notifications when new jobs are posted on ePack matching your profile, you can set up your own customized job search agent to receive just the postings you desire (intern vs. full time, etc). For a short video tutorial on how to create your own personalized job agent, click here.

The Alumni Association has partnered with the University Career Development Center to make ePACK available to NC State alumni. If you are a current Alumni Association member, update your online profile by visiting the Wolfpack Connect (alumni directory) and click on the ‘Update My Info’ tab on the upper right side of the page. Select the ‘Career Connections’ tab and then choose ‘yes’ beside the question, ‘Do you want access to ePACK?’

To access ePACK you must be a member of the Alumni Association and you must be an alumnus/alumnae of NC State. If you are not a member of the Alumni Association, you can join online. Once you have received an email confirming your membership, you will be able to register for access to ePACK.
