Faculty Positions - Tenured/Tenure-Track Faculty Positions in Digital Transformation of Education


The Department of Computer Science at North Carolina State University (NCSU) invites applications for one or more Tenured/Tenure-Track Faculty Positions, with an expected (but flexible) start date of August 16, 2024. Applicants at all ranks (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) will be considered.

Candidates must work in the area of the digital transformation of education, with a particular emphasis on artificial intelligence in education including large language models; novel digital technologies for education including augmented reality, virtual reality and mixed reality; and human computer interaction focused on educational technologies.

Successful candidates must have a strong commitment to academic and research excellence, and an outstanding research record commensurate with the expectations of a major research university.  Required credentials include a doctorate in Computer Science or a related field.

As a faculty member for the Department of Computer Science, your responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:

  • Conduct a research program supportive of the area of “Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology for the Digital Transformation of Education.”  Including but not limited to research in:

    • Artificial Intelligence in Education,

    • Educational Data Mining,

    • Learning Analytics, including with multimodal data 

    • Natural Language Processing for educational data

    • Image Processing for Educational Data

    • Novel digital technologies for education including Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality, Games, Large Language Models, 

    • Human Computer Interaction focused on educational applications and technologies,

    • Intelligent Tutoring Systems and Intelligent Learning Environments

  • Develop a collaborative research agenda that draws connections across the DTE Cluster, and the Colleges of Engineering and Education.

  • Participate in both undergraduate and graduate instruction.

  • Attract external funding consistent with the research program.

  • Direct graduate student research in the different areas of Computer Science.

  • Contribute to scholarship in AI and Education.

The Department, part of NC State's College of Engineering, is one of the largest and oldest in the country. The department's research expenditures and recognition have been growing steadily.  For example, we have one of the largest concentrations in the country of prestigious NSF Early Career Award winners (35 of our current or former faculty have received one). Further, we are widely recognized as a highly diverse department, having one of the highest numbers of female tenure­ track faculty in a computer science department in the country.
