CyberCorps Scholarships for Service @ NC State
The Scholarship for Service (SFS) program is administered and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in cooperation with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Scholarship benefits include full tuition and fees, a cost-of-living stipend, and reimbursement for travel expenses and professional development. Students awarded a scholarship will incur a service obligation to the government upon graduation from N.C. State.
Scholarship recipients receive internship opportunities prior to graduation, professional development, and employment placement assistance. Upon graduation, recipients work in a position related to cybersecurity for a Federal, State, Local or Tribal government organization in the United States for a period equal to the length of the scholarship. Typically, students will be funded for two years.
The goal of the CyberCorps® program is to strengthen the workforce charged with safeguarding our government agencies from cyberattacks, and protecting the security and privacy of the public.
The application deadline for the 2020-2021 academic year is March 15, 2020.
Scholarship Benefits
- N.C. State tuition and fees per academic year (excluding meal plans, housing and parking).
- Academic year stipends of $25,000 for undergraduates and $34,000 for graduate students per academic year.
- Up to $3,000 health insurance allowance per year.
- An allowance of up to $6,000 for job fair and other travel, professional development, textbooks, professional certifcation, etc., per academic year.
- Summer internships, typically paid, with a government organization.
- Access to the CyberCorps® Scholarship for Service Job Fair, where scholarship recipients meet Federal or State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial government employment recruiters.
Eligibility
To be eligible for consideration, an applicant must be a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States and be a full-time student pursuing a bachelors or masters degree in Computer Science, with specialization in Cybersecurity.
Recipient Obligations
Upon receiving the scholarship, students must:
- Maintain a specified grade point average.
- Attend the CyberCorp® Scholarship for Service Job Fair in Washington, D.C. in January of each year.
- Complete an internship at an approved federal agency during the first summer.
- After graduation, work for an approved government agency for a period equal to the length of the scholarship.
