Centennial Campus Honored as Top Research Science Park

NC State University's Centennial Campus, home to more than 130 companies, government agencies, and NC State research and academic units, has been named the top Research Science Park of the Year by The Association of University Research Parks (AURP). more

Departmental Research Grants, Gifts, and Support

Super ePartner, Network Appliance has made a donation of hardware and software to the university valued at over $92,500.  The NetApp FAS 270 technology has been deployed in an innovation virtualization application at The Friday Institute, and will later be used to support data storage research and teaching needs. more

NC State University recently announced a $2.4M equipment gift from Intel Corporation and a $1.2M equipment gift from IBM, which will support the expansion of its open source Virtual Computing Lab (VCL), a powerful next-generation computing environment with the potential to radically change the educational and research landscape. more

NC State alumni, Tony Brown (BS CSC ’83) and his wife Kathryn (BA English ’83), have made contributions to the department’s 40th Year Scholarship Endowment Campaign valued at almost $5,400. more

Dr. Peng Ning, associate professor of computer science, is a co-PI on a collaborative research effort with colleagues in the ECE department which has been awarded a total of $223,071 by the Army Research Office to fund the research proposal titled “Reliable Medium Access in Wireless Networks: Vulnerabilities, Protection, and Recovery.more

The Renaissance Computing Institute, launched in 2004 to build partnerships and apply advanced technologies to complex, multidisciplinary problems, enters a new stage in December as founder Daniel A. Reed joins Microsoft Research and Deputy Director Alan Blatecky takes the helm as interim director. more

Dr. R. Michael Young, associate professor, spoke recently on industry / academic collaborations at the Montreal International Games Summit.  more

Song and Thummalapenta win ETX 2007 Best Student Paper Award

Congratulations to PhD students Yoonki Song and Suresh Thummalapenta as their paper co-authored with Dr. Tao Xie entitled “UnitPlus: Assisting Developer Testing in Eclipse” won the Best Student Paper Award at the 5th Eclipse Technology eXchange (ETX) Workshop at OOPSLA 2007 held in Montreal, Canada on October 21, 2007. more

Wang Receives ACM / IEEE-CS High Performance Computing PhD Fellowship

Student Teams Perform Well at ACM Mid-Atlantic Programming Contest

Virtually Famous

CSC alumni Brian Bouterse and Sammie Carter are part of a team who wrote and produced a music video that took top honors in a contest sponsored by virtualization product developer VMware. more

Mentored HS Students Head to Big Apple for National Competition

Three extremely bright students from Enloe High School in Raleigh, under the mentorship of Dr. Donald Bitzer, Distinguished University Research Professor at NC State, are headed to New York City this weekend for the national finals of the Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology. Top prize in the prestigious competition is $100,000 scholarship. more

Fall “Posters & Pies” Event to be held December 5th

You are cordially invited to the NCSU Computer Science Senior Design Center's "Posters & Pies" on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 from 10:40 am - 1:00 pm.  This event is sponsored by our Super ePartner, Tekelec, and will be held in Room 1025 EBII.  Following the presentations, pizza and dessert pies will be served as you enjoy project demonstrations and poster displays in 3001 & 3002 EBII.  Advance registration requested. link

Fall 2007 Diploma Ceremony Set for December 19th

The NC State Department of Computer Science will hold its fall diploma ceremony on Wednesday, December 19th at 1:30 pm in beautiful Meymandi Concert Hall at the Progress Energy Center for Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh (directions).  As our department celebrates its 40th year this semester, we are honored to have Paul Jones (B.S. ’72), one of our very first graduates, return to deliver the keynote address. more
