Dulberg & Adams Endow Computer Science Scholarship

Alumnus, Dr. Martin "Marty" Dulberg (MS '96, PhD '03) and his wife, Dr. Barbara "Jasmine" Adams, have made a generous donation to the department of computer science to establish a scholarship endowment in honor of Marty's mother and stepfather, Renee and Stan Katz. The Renee and Stan Katz Scholarship Endowment will provide scholarship funds to a freshman in computer science and is renewable for up to eight (8) semesters as long the student maintains qualifying grades and makes acceptable academic progress toward graduation. Should the recipient decide to change majors, the scholarship may be retained as long as the recipient remains in the College of Engineering. Preference shall be given to first generation college students. more

Departmental Research Grants, Gifts, and Support

Super ePartner, Cisco Systems, continues to be a strong supporter of our students. They recently committed $1,000 to support the Geek-a-thon event next fall, $2,500 to support Women in Computer Science initiatives, and approximately $2,500 to help support the ECE/CSC game room. Thanks Cisco!

Dr. Mladen Vouk has been awarded $885,000 by the Department of Energy (DOE) to fund his research proposal titled "Scientific Data Management Center for Enabling Technologies." more

Dr. Xiaosong Ma has been awarded $43,830 by the Oak Ridge National Laboratories - UT-Battelle LLC to fund her research proposal titled "Transparent Data Recovery for Parallel File Systems Abstract." more

CSC Faculty / Staff News

Congratulations to Dr. Frank Mueller and his former student, alumnus Micheal Noeth (MS '06), as their paper entitled "Scalable Compression and Replay of Communication Traces in Massively Parallel Environments" has been selected for the Best Paper Award in the Software track of the IEEE International Parallel & Distributed Processing Symposium. more

Dr. Peng Ning served as a guest editor for a special issue of the Journal of Computer Security (JCS), featuring articles on security for ad hoc and sensor networks research. more

Open House to Introduce NC State Community to RENCI

The Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) at NC State University will open its doors to the Triangle research community on Friday, March 23, for an open house that will showcase RENCI technologies and collaborations with NC State researchers. more

NC State Launches Intensive Graduate Program in Analytics

In today's data-driven society, there's a strong need for trained professionals who can make sense out of the vast jumbles of numbers, whether it is uncovering fraud in banking transactions, improving the quality of health care received by patients or predicting which customers will respond to a marketing campaign. That's what North Carolina State University's newly authorized graduate degree program in analytics plans to provide. more

Geek-a-Thon Coming to NC State

As part of our 40th Year Celebration, the Association for Computing Machinery/Association for Information Technology Professionals (ACM/AITP) and the Women in Computer Science (WiCS) student organizations in association with the NC State Department of Computer Science and the Kramden Institute, Inc. are organizing a Geek-a-Thon! A Geek-a-Thon is a weekend long event where computers are refurbished and then donated to help high-achieving, but less-advantaged middle school students in Wake County cross the digital divide. To help make this a successful event, we need your support. more
