WiCS Event to Celebrate Gender Diversity in Computer Science

There is growing concern in our nation over the increasing decline of women in computing.  While numerous studies and initiatives have been launched to address this challenge, nationwide, no one seems to have found the magic formula to reverse the trend…yet.

Thinking outside the box, our Women in Computer Science (WiCS) organization is taking a new approach to addressing the challenge: through celebration and awareness.

WiCS, with the support of the Computer Science Department and Super ePartner, Cisco Systems, is organizing an event to Celebrate Gender Diversity in Computer Science on Wednesday, April 11th, 2 - 4 pm, in the EBII atrium.

During the event, WiCS will celebrate the tremendous gender diversity among the faculty and students in our department.  At the same time, they hope to raise the awareness level of this challenge among the entire computer science community, and possibly come up with fresh ideas to help reverse the trend.

All faculty, students, alumni and guests are invited to stop by and enjoy desserts and coffee!

Attendees who fill out a questionnaire will be eligible to enter a raffle to be held at the end of the event.  A few lucky winners will receive prizes such as an iPod.
