Mueller Receives Research Supplement

Dr. Frank Mueller, professor of computer science at NC State University, has been awarded $50,000 in supplemental funding by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory via US Dept. of Energy to support his research proposal entitled “Resilience for Global Address Spaces.”  This $50,000 supplement brings the total funding for this project to $203,393.

The award will run from September 24, 2014 through August 15, 2016.

Abstract –The objective of this work is to provide functionality for the BLCR Linux module under a PGAS runtime system (within the DEGAS software stack) to support advanced fault-tolerant capabilities, which are of specific value in the context of large-scale computational science
codes running on high-end clusters and, ultimately, exascale facilities. Our proposal is to develop and integrate into DEGAS a set of advanced techniques to reduce the checkpoint/restart (C/R)
overhead.
