A New Weapon in the War on Robocall Scams

Phone Scam graphicThanks to NC State Computer Science researchers, the latest weapon in the war on robocalls is an automated system capable of analyzing the content of these unsolicited bulk calls to shed light on both the scope of the problem and the type of scams being perpetuated by robocalls. The tool, called SnorCall, is designed to help regulators, phone carriers and other stakeholders better understand and monitor robocall trends – and take action against related criminal activity. Liu’s Quantum Sensing Project Receives $1.1M NSF Grant

Dr. Jianqing Liu, assistant professor of computer science, is the first person at NC State University to be awarded a very selective $1.1M National Science Foundation (NSF) TAQS grant to support his quantum research on crop diseases - and in particular what he calls “a headache” in the agriculture industry: downy mildew. From Ideas to Solutions

DogCSC’s Dave Roberts and his collaborative ‘Wearable EKG for Dogs’ prototype is among six projects which secured support from the Chancellor’s Innovation Fund (CIF) this year. For the first time in the CIF’s history, awardees will receive supplemental resources through local entrepreneur and investor Bill Spruill’s 2ndF Research Commercialization Fund. Read More »

CSC alum Jay Strickland and his wife April have donated $10,000 as part of a multi-year pledge in support of the Carol Miller Student Leadership Endowment.

CSC alum William W. Johnson III has donated $10,000 in support of the William W. Johnson III Computer Science Scholarship Endowment.

Dr. Ed Gehringer and his wife, Carol, have made a generous unrestricted donation to support the department.

Meet Our New Deans - In addition to the many new students coming to campus this fall semester, NC State welcomes new leaders for three of its colleges. On August 1, Garey Fox became dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Lewis Owen became dean of the College of Sciences and Jim Pfaendtner became dean of the College of Engineering. NC State Hosts Integrative Sciences Building Groundbreaking - The Integrative Sciences Building represents a collaboration with the Colleges of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Engineering, Sciences and Veterinary Medicine. The 150,000-square-foot facility to be built on the site of NC State’s former Harrelson Hall, will revitalize the Brickyard. The building will house the Integrative Sciences Undergraduate Curriculum, with state-of-the-art instructional labs, event space and a science gallery. The second floor will house advanced laboratory space allowing for the integration of physical and life science labs in a way not possible anywhere else on campus. Floors three, four and five will house the Integrative Sciences Initiative research program, with faculty focusing on discovering, using, and producing molecular agents used to fight cancer and infectious diseases. Faculty based in the building will have appointments in the four participating colleges. Read More »

Personalized Job Search Agent in ePack

If you are a CSC student or recent graduate (within 12 months post-graduation) and would like to receive email notifications when new jobs are posted on ePack matching your profile, you can set up your own customized job search agent to receive just the postings you desire (intern vs. full time, etc). The Alumni Association has partnered with the University Career Development Center to make ePACK available to NC State alumni. If you are a current Alumni Association member, update your online profile by visiting the Wolfpack Connect (alumni directory) and click on the ‘Update My Info’ tab on the upper right side of the page. Select the ‘Career Connections’ tab and then choose ‘yes’ beside the question, ‘Do you want access to ePACK?’

To access ePACK you must be a member of the Alumni Association and you must be an alumnus/alumnae of NC State. If you are not a member of the Alumni Association, you can join online. Once you have received an email confirming your membership, you will be able to register for access to ePACK.
