Lab Instructor and Teaching Assistant Job Applications

The Department of Computer Science hires excited, talented, and motivated students as lab instructors and teaching assistants for

  • CSC112 - Introduction to Computing - FORTRAN,
  • CSC116 - Introduction to Computing - Java,
  • CSC200 - Introduction to Computers and Their Uses, and
  • E115 - Introduction to Computing Environments.

Working as a Lab Instructor or Teaching Assistant provides the opportunity for students to share their knowledge with other students, improve their understanding of the course material, and interact with a fun group of their peers, all while drawing a paycheck!

Lab Instructor and Teaching Assistant Expectations

  • Teach one or more weekly labs or attend lectures
  • Grade in-class assignments, homework, and exams
  • Hold office hours and help students learn material
  • Attend weekly organizational meetings
  • Attend a training session before the semester starts (typically the day before the start of the semester)

Lab Instructor and Teaching Assistant Requirements

A Lab Instructor or Teaching Assistant hired for a CSC lab position must meet the following requirements:

  • Full or part-time (if registered in a degree program) student enrolled for the semester he or she wishes to TA in,
  • Student received a B or better in CSC112, CSC116, CSC200, or equivalent course,
  • Student received a S in E115 or equivalent course,
  • Student has a 2.5 or greater overall GPA,
  • Student who does not have a 2.5 GPA, but has previous Lab Instructor or Teaching Assistant experience in the course or an equivalent course who is also showing GPA improvement and progress toward degree.

While Lab Instructors and Teaching Assistants can be or any major and status, undergraduates and CSC majors are preferred.

Lab Instructor and Teaching Assistant Pay Rates

Pay rates are based on class status and the number of semesters of consecutive experience as a lab instructor and/or teaching assistant. These pay rates are subject to change pending funding decisions by the College of Engineering.
