Getting Service

For University purchased hardware, call the Apple Education Support number - 1-800-800-2775.

Apple Service Contracts

Yes, you should really really get the 3 year AppleCare service. If anything goes wrong, the contract will have paid for itself. You can purchase the contracts within a year of purchasing the computers; the 3 years is still 3 years from original purchase date.

Turn on SSH daemon

Select System Preferences -> Sharing-> Remote Login and your SSH daemon will start up

Terminal

Cycle through all your terminal windows with "Cmnd-RtArrow" or "Cmnd-LeftArrow"

Port Scanner

OS X ships with a a GUI frontending a few network tools, such as a port scanner. /Applications/Utilities/Network Utility

NFS Mounts

Not tested yet, but Apple Support Article ID# 25344 refers to a 1 time mount. Finder ->Go->Connect to Server, then type in nfs://<hostname>/path/to/dir.

More persistent mounts, Apple Support Article ID # 107301 holds the exports man page (not in 10.2.2).
