Fidelity Investments "Leadership in Technology" Series Presents Jim Whitehurst

Please join us on September 29th at 6 pm in Lecture Hall 1231 EBII for the 1st fall talk in the Fidelity Investments “Leadership in Technology” Executive Speakers Series.

Our special guest speaker will be Jim Whitehurst, President & CEO of Red Hat. His talk topic will be “The Open Source Opportunity”.

 

Whitehurst joined Delta Airlines in 2002, serving in various roles, most recently as Chief Operating Officer, responsible for Operations, Sales and Customer Service, Network and Revenue Management, Marketing and Corporate Strategy. Prior to joining Delta, Whitehurst served as Vice President and Director of The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and held various leadership roles in their Chicago, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Atlanta offices. 

 

A native of Columbus, Ga., Whitehurst graduated from Rice University in Houston, Texas, with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Economics. He also attended Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen, Germany, holds a general course degree from the London School of Economics and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

 

Abstract: The past year has brought unprecedented change with a high-pressure economic environment and increased demand for IT. As a vehicle for economic and social change, the power of open source is immeasurable in changing how people learn, how developers create and how companies do business. In his keynote address, Red Hat President and CEO Jim Whitehurst will share his vision of how the open source model is meeting the IT demands of today and providing a means for developing and solving problems faster, better and at a lower cost.
