Kaur & Young Receive WISE Fellowships

Congratulations to NC State Computer Science Ph.D. students Gurleen Kaur (left) and Jessica Young (right), who have been selected to receive Women In Science Engineering Fellowships for the WISE 2008: Women’s Institute in Summer Enrichment program at Cornell University.

At the residential summer program on the Cornell University campus, Kaur and Young will have the opportunity to gather with other graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and professors from all disciplines who are interested in Ubiquitous Secure Technology and the social, political and economical ramifications that are associated with this technology.

WISE Fellowships cover tuition, lodging, meals and a travel stipend of $500 for transportation costs.

Throughout the one-week program, participants will attend rigorous classes in the morning and explore through hands-on experiments and team-based projects in the afternoons. Professors from across the country attend this program to teach power courses in several disciplines, including computer science, economics, law and electrical engineering.

Dr. Annie Antón, associate professor of computer science at NC State University, serves as faculty advisor for both Kaur and Young.  She will also serve as a member of the senior faculty during the summer institute.
