Faculty Promotions and Re-appointments Announced

The Department of Computer Science at NC State University is pleased to announce the following faculty promotions, effective August 16, 2010. 

Dr. Frank Mueller is promoted to Full Professor. He received his Ph.D. from Florida State University in 1994. His research interests include compilers and code optimization, concurrent and distributed systems, real-time and embedded systems, architecture, and programming languages. For more information on Dr. Mueller, click here.
 
  
 
 
 
 
  
Dr. Peng Ning is promoted to Full Professor. He received his Ph.D. from George Mason University in 2001. His research interests include computer and network security, new techniques for building trustworthy systems, and wireless security. He is the technical director of the Secure Open Systems Initiative (SOSI). For more information on Dr. Ning, click here.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Dr. Steffen Heber is promoted to Associate Professor. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, in 2001. He has a joint appointment between the Department of Computer Science and the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences to support the Bioinformatics Research Center at NC State. His research interests include algorithms to compare and analyze gene order permutations, and animation development for bioinformatics education. For more information on Dr. Heber, click here.
 
 
 
 
  
 
Dr. Tao Xie is promoted to Associate Professor. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 2005. His research interests are in software engineering with an emphasis on improving software reliability and dependability. He leads the Automated Software Engineering Research Group at NC State. For more information on Dr. Xie, click here.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Dr. Kemafor Anyanwu is re-appointed for a second term as Assistant Professor. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Georgia in 2007. Her research interests include “semantic computing” – semantic Web, databases, data mining, information retrieval, and services computing. For more information on Dr. Anyanwu, click here.
 
 
 
 
 
  
 
Dr. Xiaohui (Helen) Gu is re-appointed for a second term as Assistant Professor. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2004. Her research interests include distributed systems, operating systems, and computer networks. For more information on Dr. Gu, click here.
