Poster Printer Instructions
Any changes made to these instructions should be placed on the desktop of the poster printer computer.
All of this must be done while sitting at the computer in the mail room. The only supported format is PDF. You can go to any Linux lab on campus and use Open Office to convert files to PDF format. (We will be offering a copy of Acrobat on the printing machine in the future, but it is currently not available) Below are the instructions to print a PDF:
PDF
* Open the file using Adobe Reader.
* Check the page size to see what you need to put into the printer. Do this by going to File > Properties.
* Towards the bottom of the page is a value that says page size = W x H. W is the width of the page. H is the height of the page.
* Now click File > Print.
* In the print dialog box, hit the Properties box in the upper-right corner.
* On the man tab, under the Mode heading, move the slider from Speed to Quality.
* Click the Paper tab at the top.
* Click the drop down box under paper size. Click User Defined. Do this even if it is already set to user defined. This will open up the custom paper size dialog box.
If (W <= 44 inches) and (W >= H)
* Next to Paper width you’ll need to put in the W multiplied by 100 because the values here are measure by 1/100th of an inch. For example, if your poster is 36 inches wide, you’ll need to put 3600 in for the paper width.
* Set paper height to H x 100
* Leave the orientation set to portrait.
* Hit OK twice.
If (W > 44 inches)
* Set paper width to H x 100.
* Set paper height to W x 100.
* Set orientation to landscape.
* Hit OK twice.
If (W < H)
* Set paper width to H x 100.
* Set paper height to W x 100.
* Set orientation to portrait.
* Hit OK twice.
All Set. Let’s Print.
* Look at the preview pane. Make sure the poster looks approximately what you expect.
* Hit OK to print the poster.
Adding a network printer
We recently completed a migration to a new print server. Upon completion of the migration the old print server win-apps-printer was shutdown and is no longer accessible. Our new method of distribution is much simpler and allows for easier migration between computers when the time to upgrade to a new machine arises.
If you are receiving an "unavailable" error or if you would like to add a printer to your computer please send an e-mail to help@csc.ncsu.edu. In the e-mail please include the name of the printers you are having problems with and/or would like to add.
NOTE: Once we have made the addition on our end, the computer will need to be restarted.
