Welcome to the NCSU event page for the 1st ever Geek-A-Thon organized by NCSU's ACM/AITP and WICS, sponsored by SIM NC, Cisco, Kangaroo Express, ISSA, and hosted at Centennial Campus Middle School.

What is a Geek-A-Thon? A Geek-A-Thon is where volunteers refurbish donated computers so that they can be given to kids and their families. The Kramden Institute has organized the Geek-A-Thons since 2005, with over 850 computers being refurbished since then to kids in North Carolina.

ACM/AITP and WICS are seeking students, alumni, faculty, staff, industrial partners, etc. who are interested in participating in this or any future Geek-A-Thon organized by NCSU. We need volunteers to refurbish computers and demonstrate computer functionality to kids and their families. The event will be held on the weekend of October 5^th, 2007 and will last all weekend at Centennial Campus Middle School. Positions are needed for both helping fix up the donated computers. This is a great opportunity to volunteer and to help out the community. Kids with a computer in the home perform better in schools than kids without computers in their homes. With the volunteer effort, we can help those who do not have a computer and help them cross the digital divide.

All of our slots have been filled and so we have shut down the signup process for NCSU students. If you are not an NCSU student or staff and would still like to volunteer, please head over to kramden.org as they are handling registration for NON-NCSU volunteers. Thanks for your support. If you already have registered, you should still be able to log in and look at the times you have scheduled.

If you would like to help out the Kramden Institute, they hold other Geek-A-Thon's and have volunteer hours posted at their website to help out at their Headquarters.

If you want to help out and you are busy during the week, join the Kramden Institute team every third Saturday of each month from 9am to 2pm, to assist with specific projects and activities.
