Position Summary:
The Computational Sciences and Engineering Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory invite applications for the position of Software Engineer in the Cyberspace Sciences and Information Intelligence Research (CSIIR) Group. Major Duties/Responsibilities The position requires an experienced person who can immediately assume the role of a Computer Software Engineer and Software Programmer in a research and development environment that involves projects focused on all facets of network security, and human behavior/insider threat. Position require innovative thinking about hardware, software, and combinations thereof; technology evaluation; concept design; prototype development, implementation, and demonstration. Qualified applicants must have demonstrated hands-on skills and experience in developing software requirements, architecture and design, construction, testing, and maintenance; and demonstrated expertise in writing, testing, debugging/troubleshooting, and maintaining specialized programs/applications. Qualified applicants must have the ability to multi-task and work in multi-team environment.
Requirements:
Qualifications Required The qualified applicant must have excellent programming skills in C, C++, C#, and Java; at least 5 years of programming experience with a demonstrated ability to use design patterns and software engineering best practices for secure, scalable, reliable, rapid implementation; Previous experience with cyber security, network security, and/or human behavior/insider threat is required; Excellent communications skills for visualization and presentation of methodology, results, and demonstrations; works well with others, and can independently identify and solve challenging technical problems; strong commitment to ethical and professional values; maintains compliance with environmental, safety, health, and quality standards. Education: BS in computer science, engineering, or mathematics is required; MS or higher preferred. It is required of this position the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse program (WSAP) testing designed position which requires passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in which employees are subject to being randomly selected for testing. The occupant of this position will also be subject to an ongoing requirement to report to ORNL any drug-related arrest or conviction or receipt of a positive drug test result.
