Position Summary:
The Chief Programmer is responsible for coordinating the development and deployment of large-scale web-based software applications. The role has three key areas of responsibility: 1) management of design and implementation strategies; 2) project planning; and 3) hands-on development.
Requirements:
Responsibilities: I. Management of Design and Implementation Strategies • Leads product and architectural direction. • Develop and evolve product development process (design, code, and test). • Keeps internal development teams focused and motivated, to achieve successful delivery and client satisfaction. • Works with Director of Development to drive ongoing improvement of development process. • Assumes responsibility for mentoring developers. II. Project Planning • Develops executable project plans. • Effectively translates project scope and deliverables into tasks, schedules, and resources. Completes effective work breakdown planning, identifying critical path timing and interdependencies. • Drives reporting practices to keep executive team and all departments current on team status. • Proactively identifies, escalates, and resolves issues and/or changes in scope. III. Hands-on Development • Design, code, and unit tests product features. • Assists operations team with production setup and deployment. Skills and Expertise: • Bachelor’s degree, preferred in technology. • 8+ years experience with software development in software product companies. • Previous experience in a technical lead role on significant projects, including responsibility for architecture and design of an enterprise-scale software product. • Strong understanding of enterprise product features such as high availability, security, manageability, and data integration. • Significant experience in Web 2.0 technologies (e.g. JavaScript, CSS, AJAX, REST, Ruby on Rails, MySQL) • Strong communication, organization and inter-personal skills are essential. • Ability to work in tight deadline, high-pressure situations.
