What's special about our Graduate Program?
Our nationally recognized faculty consists of approximately 50 tenure-track professors, as well as a number of adjunct professors and visiting lecturers, many of whom possess extensive experience in industry. Included in this elite group of faculty are two Alumni Distinguished Professors, twenty recipients of the National Science Foundation's prestigious CAREER Award (which go to the nation's outstanding young faculty), a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a number of ACM and IEEE Fellows, and several University Outstanding Teachers.
Graduate programs in Computer Science provide a variety of excellent educational and research opportunities to students from across the U.S. and all over the world. Our Master's Degree Program offers several options: the Master of Science (thesis), the Master of Computer Science (non-thesis, available via either distance learning or on-campus enrollment,) and a Master of Computer Networking (thesis or non-thesis, on campus or via distance learning). The flagship degree is the Ph.D. in Computer Science, which prepares students for leadership positions in academia, industry research labs, and government.
All Graduate Programs within the Department of Computer Science are operated on NC State's Centennial Campus, which is adjacent to the University's Historic Campus in Raleigh, NC. The NC State Department of Computer Science now occupies a new building (Engineering Building II - EB II) on Centennial Campus. Several corporate headquarters, research & development labs, and satellite offices are nestled among NC State University teaching and research facilities on Centennial Campus. This extension of NC State was designed with the intent of building strong relationships and partnerships between the University and area industry.
Raleigh, the state capital of North Carolina, is home to NC State University and is consistently rated as one of "America's Best Places to Live." Research Triangle Park, also referred to as RTP, is a technological mecca of the East Coast that combines the needs and resources of area industry with the teaching and research capabilities of North Carolina State University, Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Upon graduation, NC State students have the advantage of close proximity to great employment opportunities in this technologically oriented area.
