Graduate Program - Accelerated Bachelor's/Master's (ABM) Degree Program

The ABM program allows exceptional seniors in Computer Science at NCSU to count up to four graduate Computer Science courses, not exceeding 12 credit hours, toward the credits required for the BS and also to the credits required for a Master's degree.

Degree Requirements:

There are no changes or modifications in the BS degree requirements or the Master's degree requirements except that up to four CSC 500 level courses (12 credits) a student takes to satisfy the BS restricted elective requirement may be "double counted" towards satisfying the Master's degree requirements. However, students may not receive credit for both of any of the following pairs of courses (the list is subject to revision):

CSC 401 and CSC 570
CSC 411 and CSC 520
CSC 440 and CSC 540
CSC 451 and CSC 501
CSC 454 and CSC 554
CSC 456 and CSC 506
CSC 461 and CSC 550
CSC 467 and CSC 557

This program will follow the ABM Program description and rules as recommended by the Administrative Board of the Graduate School on March 7, 2002, or as subsequently revised. The program description is at http://www.fis.ncsu.edu/grad_publicns/handbook/ in chapter 3, section 3.12.

Students applying for the program should read the description and rules carefully. We will not seek exceptions to the requirements and stipulations stated in them.

If you have questions about the program, please contact your academic advisor or the Director of Graduate Programs.

To apply for the ABM program, follow the instructions in part C of section 3.12. You will need to develop a Plan of Graduate Work to be signed by the Directors of Undergraduate and Graduate Programs and to actually apply to the Graduate School. This truly means that you must apply and pay the application fee. Your application should indicate an application date of the semester immediately following your BS commencement.
